About the position

The Peer Specialist for the Mobile Crisis Intervention Team at Riverside Community Care plays a crucial role in providing support and assistance to individuals and families in crisis, particularly those dealing with substance use disorders. This position focuses on creating a welcoming and responsive environment, offering psychoeducation, and facilitating access to community resources and follow-up services. The Peer Specialist utilizes personal experience to convey hope and support recovery efforts, ensuring individuals receive the necessary care during their transition to follow-up services.

Responsibilities

  • Convey hope and provide psychoeducation about recovery, rehabilitation, and crisis self-management.
  • Assist in arranging services for individuals referred after the Mobile Crisis Intervention (MCI) intervention.
  • Support individuals and families during the transition to follow-up services.
  • Provide similar services in the MCI service and Adult CCS as staffing and time permit.
  • Explain the process to access services and availability of self-help resources.
  • Provide follow-up for individuals who may or may not be ready to accept help at the time of initial contact.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer fluency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Must be a Certified Peer Specialist or obtain certification within 6 months to 1 year of hire.
  • Valid driver's license, safe driving record, and regular access to a reliable vehicle.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree or Associate's degree in a Human Services or related field preferred.
  • Experience as a consumer of services or family member of a consumer preferred.
  • One year experience working with the target population required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification as a Peer Specialist preferred; must begin certification process if hired without certification.
  • Experience as a consumer or family member of a consumer.
