About the position

The Peer Specialist at St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester is a vital member of the Residential Housing Team, responsible for supporting peers in their recovery journey. This role involves acting as a role model, providing advocacy, and assisting clients in regaining independence through various support activities. The Peer Specialist will engage with clients to help them learn new skills, monitor their progress, and navigate treatment services effectively.

Responsibilities

• Function as a role model to peers, demonstrating personal recovery and coping skills.
• Serve as a consumer advocate, providing information and peer support to clients/tenants.
• Assist peers in regaining independence within the community.
• Help clients/tenants learn and practice new skills.
• Support clients in monitoring their progress and advocating for themselves.
• Contact treatment providers to set up appointments for clients.
• Escort clients to appointments and assist them as needed.
• Provide home visits and community visits to support clients.
• Utilize agency vehicles or public transportation to take clients to appointments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum one year experience in behavioral health services or mental health setting.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license in good standing required.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database navigation.
