About the position
The Peer Support Specialist for Assisted Outpatient Treatment plays a crucial role in supporting individuals in their recovery journey from mental health and substance abuse issues. This position utilizes personal recovery experiences to facilitate support groups, develop tailored recovery plans, and collaborate with mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive care. The specialist encourages self-advocacy and educates clients and the community about mental health and substance abuse, while maintaining confidentiality and documenting individual progress.
Responsibilities
- Use own experience of recovery to help others.
- Facilitate and lead support group meetings.
- Develop recovery plans tailored to the individual's unique circumstances.
- Assist individuals in identifying and utilizing resources in the community for further support.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
- Encourage self-advocacy among individuals to help them achieve their goals.
- Document individual progress and maintain confidentiality of all personal information.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Educate individuals, families, and the community about mental health and substance abuse.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Willing to self-identify as a person in recovery from substance abuse or mental health issues.
- Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist is preferred.
- Must obtain certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist within one year of hire.
- Two years of living in recovery.
