About the position

The Peer Support Specialist/Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) position at AWRC in Phoenix, AZ, is a full-time role focused on providing support and rehabilitative services to women recovering from substance abuse. The specialist will serve as a mentor and advocate, helping clients navigate their recovery journey while promoting independence and well-being. This role requires bilingual proficiency in Spanish and involves direct interaction with clients, case management, and community resource referrals.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a live experienced expert, mentor, teacher, and advocate.
  • Provides supportive services to adults recovering from alcohol and drug addiction including peer support, case management, community/service referral, education, living skills training, outreach, employment assistance and relationship skills training.
  • Teaches independence and identifies a person's strengths, listens to people's experiences, and encourages success in recovery.
  • Provides supportive services to family members of adult clients.
  • Understands and recognizes the 'Stages of Change' for each individual client.
  • Reads and implements client treatment plans under supervision.
  • Provides transportation to and from appointments using a 12-passenger van.
  • Recognizes, prevents, and responds to client crisis situations.
  • Assists clients in accessing community services and resources.
  • Records and documents client information in compliance with organizational standards.
  • Ensures compliance with all necessary reporting requirements and billing procedures.
  • Protects client rights and confidentiality.
  • Recognizes and respects cultural differences.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior toward all clients, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Practices and role-models positive mental hygiene and recovery tools.
  • Adheres to Arizona laws regarding the use of seat belts and car seats with agency vehicles.
  • Participates in monthly supervision.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Peer Support Specialist Certification from the State of Arizona
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must pass a Background Check
  • Must pass drug screening
  • At least 1 year of experience working with substance abuse (AOD)
