About the position

The Peer Support Specialist (PSS)/Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) provides peer support to individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health challenges. This role involves acting as a positive role model and offering mentorship to those navigating their recovery journey. The PSS/CRM works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team at Kaiser Permanente, providing support through direct interactions, community engagement, and resource connection, while also adapting to virtual service delivery as needed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 peer support to individuals, dedicating 50-60% of work time to this task.
  • Collaborate actively with the KP Recovery Pathways team.
  • Participate in regular peer support supervisions and care conferences.
  • Meet individuals in the community or their homes to build trusting relationships.
  • Support individuals in exploring strategies to enhance their wellness across eight dimensions.
  • Assist individuals in identifying and engaging with community resources.
  • Educate individuals on alternatives to using emergency services for non-emergent needs.
  • Support individuals in crisis situations, coordinating with the KP team for trauma-informed interventions.
  • Document and maintain peer-centric support summaries in compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Act as a positive role model and advocate for individuals in their recovery journey.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Peer Support Specialist or Peer Wellness Specialist certification required upon hire.
  • Valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of automobile insurance if applicable.
  • Identifies as having lived experience of recovery from addiction challenges.
  • Experience working with adults with addiction issues preferred.
  • Understanding of trauma's effects on health and principles of recovery.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mental health recovery is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience navigating electronic systems relevant to job functions.
