About the position

The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for providing peer support services to clients in crisis and residential settings, assisting them in their recovery journey. This role involves working closely with clinical and medical staff to ensure clients receive the necessary support and care, while also representing the mental health consumer's perspective in treatment planning and implementation. The position requires a Peer Support Specialist certification and emphasizes trauma-informed care, personal care services, and effective communication with clients and team members.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer support services to clients receiving crisis and residential services.
• Assist clients in transitioning back into the community after a crisis.
• Act as a liaison between clients and staff, offering a lived-experience perspective.
• Monitor clients' well-being and document observations in electronic health records.
• Work with the interdisciplinary team to foster a safe treatment environment.
• Provide personal care services, including assistance with daily living activities.
• Document and bill appropriately for all client interactions.
• Engage clients in their recovery process and support their personal recovery goals.
• Train fellow personnel on the role of peer support specialists.
• Represent peers in Trauma Informed Care meetings and other committees.

Requirements

• Peer Support Specialist certification from Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services.
• High school diploma or Associate Degree in mental health/social services field.
• Experience with mental health, drug and alcohol, and/or crisis intervention services preferred.
• Basic computer and exceptional customer service skills required.

Nice-to-haves

• BA/BS in mental health/social services field preferred.
• Experience in trauma-informed care.
