About the position

The Peer Support Specialist will provide crisis services, peer mentoring, and case management to clients and their families, focusing on education, empowerment, and support. This role aims to advocate for clients within the mental health system and community, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and support to maintain safety and stability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis services and peer mentoring to clients and their families.
  • Assist in screening, assessment, and creation of safety/crisis plans.
  • Model problem-solving and conflict-resolution techniques.
  • Coordinate communication and services with other community providers.
  • Advocate for client needs within the mental health system and community.
  • Provide direct treatment according to agency policies and procedures.
  • Complete documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Provide transportation to treatment activities and appointments when necessary.
  • Teach and model appropriate skills to clients and families for effective communication and safety.
  • Provide crisis line coverage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Associate degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other mental health related field preferred; High School Diploma with experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have lived experience as a current or former recipient of services.
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist or Certified Peer Support Professional or willing to receive CPRS/CPSP training required.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients of all ages and their families.
  • Basic knowledge of needs of clients with SED, SMI, Addictions, and Dual Diagnosis.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, time management, and record keeping skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication and assessment skills.
  • Ability to work energetically and independently.
  • Ability to work with the public and community agencies.
  • Capacity to access other resources and services for rural client population.
  • Ability to work within a treatment team setting.
  • Willingness to travel and work in a client's home or other community setting.
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record.
