The Peer Support Specialist at Family Endeavors, Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting individuals recovering from alcohol and substance use disorders. This position focuses on providing personalized support services, facilitating goal setting, and promoting self-advocacy and community integration for clients. The specialist will utilize their lived experience to guide clients in their recovery journey, helping them access necessary resources and develop essential life skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively work with the Clinical Director and participate in the multi-disciplinary team approach to client care.
  • Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery through one-to-one and group sessions.
  • Help clients determine the steps needed to achieve their goals and self-directed recovery.
  • Assist clients in setting up and sustaining self-help groups and locating existing groups.
  • Utilize tools like the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to help clients create individual wellness and recovery plans.
  • Teach problem-solving techniques in individual and group sessions, allowing clients to share experiences and coping methods.
  • Support clients' vocational choices and assist in job application processes and interview preparation.
  • Help clients build social skills to enhance job acquisition and tenure.
  • Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on personal recovery experience.
  • Advocate for effective recovery-based services to aid clients in daily living and recovery processes.
  • Assist clients in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current trends in the mental health field and share recovery materials with others.
  • Organize and maintain client files.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service by prioritizing client needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • State Approved Peer Support Specialist certification.
  • 3+ years of strong administrative/clerical experience.
  • 2+ years of social service and/or non-profit experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clear record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community outreach or engagement.
  • Knowledge of local resources for recovery support.
  • Familiarity with mental health and substance use treatment options.
