About the position

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking a distinguished senior scholar to serve as the Director of the Institute for Holocaust, Genocide, and Memory Studies (IHGMS) and the Pen Tishkach Chair of Holocaust Studies. This role involves leading the Institute, engaging with diverse academic disciplines, and contributing to the university's mission through teaching and research. The Director will also be responsible for fundraising and institutional development, while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration within the university and the broader Five College Consortium.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Director of the Institute for Holocaust, Genocide, and Memory Studies (IHGMS).
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to Holocaust, Genocide, and Memory Studies.
  • Engage diverse constituents and academic disciplines both domestically and internationally.
  • Lead fundraising efforts and develop a vision for institutional growth.
  • Manage the Institute's budget and administrative support.

Requirements

  • PhD in Humanities, Social Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • A record of research excellence and teaching on the Holocaust, Genocide, and/or Memory Studies appropriate for appointment at the rank of tenured full professor.
  • Significant outreach experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Administrative/supervisory experience, including budget management.
  • A record of successful grant-writing and fundraising.
