About the position

As a Penetration Tester (Engineer, Computer II) at Adapt Forward, you will play a crucial role in supporting the generation of unique tools for penetration testing within Department of Defense (DoD) environments. This position requires a TS/SCI clearance to start and involves coordinating with multiple Cyber Security Evaluation Teams to facilitate the necessary software and hardware procurement, as well as classified development essential for executing test cases related to cyber events affecting DoD systems. Your expertise will contribute to enhancing the security posture of critical information systems by identifying vulnerabilities and recommending mitigations. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting penetration testing on modern Windows and Linux operating systems, as well as IP-based networks. You will engage in exploit and malware development aimed at overcoming the defenses of contemporary operating systems. A significant part of your duties will involve reviewing and analyzing data and information that supports comprehensive cybersecurity assessments. A solid understanding of penetration testing fundamentals is essential to succeed in this position, as you will be expected to apply this knowledge in practical scenarios. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or Mathematics with a concentration in computer science, along with three years of experience in computer design, software development, or computer networks. Additionally, at least one year of technical experience in support of penetration testing or as a certified Red Team member is required. You will also be expected to work towards obtaining one of several specified certifications within a year and a half of assuming your duties, further enhancing your professional qualifications in the field of cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct penetration testing of modern Windows and Linux operating systems and IP-based networks.
  • Develop exploits and malware targeting modern operating systems and defenses.
  • Review and examine data and information that supports cybersecurity assessments.
  • Coordinate with Cyber Security Evaluation Teams to support software and hardware procurement for testing.
  • Generate required software and classified development necessary to execute test cases for cyber events.

Requirements

  • US Citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or Mathematics with a concentration in computer science
  • Three years of experience in computer design, software development, or computer networks
  • One year of technical experience in support of Penetration Testing or as a certified Red Team member
  • 8570 Classification IAT -II certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience conducting mission-based cyber risk assessments.
  • Hands-on software development experience of DoD or Commercial systems.
  • Experience in Kali Linux and its toolsets, including Metasploit.
  • Experience in penetration testing tools including scanners like Nessus and Nmap.
