About the position

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking full-time CDL Equipment Operators to support the maintenance of the county highway and bridge systems in Delaware County. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety of Pennsylvania roads through the operation of various equipment and performing manual labor tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks, loaders, and other necessary equipment for highway maintenance.
  • Conduct thorough pre-and post-operation checks on equipment and document them accordingly.
  • Perform flagger duties for traffic control when not operating equipment.
  • Utilize motorized and non-motorized hand tools for various manual labor tasks.
  • Select and use tools appropriately to minimize wear and breakage.
  • Report any missing or damaged equipment promptly.
  • Clean culverts, cut grass and brush, erect signs, dig ditches, and perform repairs to guiderails and barriers.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program employed by the Commonwealth of PA; or
  • Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • Experience operating vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
