About The Position

The Pension Benefits Advisor at Carpenters Southwest Administrative Corporation is responsible for providing specialized support and counseling to participants regarding their pension benefits. This role requires a thorough understanding of pension plans, eligibility, and benefits, ensuring quality service delivery while collaborating with various departments. The position is full-time, with a standard work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, subject to change based on departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in pension plan administration.
  • Experience with merged defined benefit or defined contribution plans preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of pension benefits and experience in examining operations and procedures.
  • Significant knowledge of governmental/legislative regulations (ERISA, DOL, PPA).
  • Experience in benefits administration systems.
  • Advanced professional designation(s) related to the qualified plan industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, ACA and ERISA along with broad experience with client services.
  • Knowledge of working with collectively bargained personnel preferred but not required.
  • High level of proficiency with all MS Office Suite products and ability to understand relational databases.
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus (read, write, speak, translate).
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling all confidential company information.
  • Detailed research, documentation, analytical and reporting skills.
  • Proficient, detail oriented, organizational and communication skills (written/verbal).
  • Ability to complete assigned projects with a high degree of independence, initiative, and judgement.
  • Strong sense of ownership, self-accountability, and urgency to manage assigned projects.
  • Dedicated team player with an interest in processing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Self-motivated and driven with ability to work independently within a collaborative work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of Management, visitors, Trustees, consultants, CSAC professionals and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive support and counseling to participants and beneficiaries regarding their pension benefits.
  • Explain the details of pension plans, including eligibility, benefits, and options available to participants.
  • Respond to participant inquiries and resolve any issues related to their pension benefits.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless service delivery to participants.
  • Determine benefit eligibility and process retirement and death benefit applications.
  • Ensure benefit suspensions are in accordance with applicable Plan provisions and initiate correspondence with retirees.
  • Calculate pension benefits, including optional forms of benefits, and all other benefit calculations as specified in Plan documents, merger documents.
  • Ensure participant and retiree records in database are accurate and reflect correct information.
  • Assist with duties or special projects as assigned by the Pension Manager.
