posted 3 months ago
Californians for Justice (CFJ) is a statewide, youth-powered organization dedicated to improving the lives of marginalized communities, including people of color, immigrants, low-income families, and LGBTQIA2S+/TGNC youth. Through grassroots organizing in schools and neighborhoods, CFJ empowers youth to become leaders in their communities, equipping them with knowledge on systemic issues such as racism, gender and sexuality, and educational inequity. The organization is unique in California for its focus on student voices in local and statewide education policy, advocating for equitable school funding, increased access to education, and the creation of Relationship Centered Schools that prioritize youth engagement and positive relationships between students and staff. The People & Operations Manager plays a crucial role within a four-person operations team, overseeing human resources and administrative functions for CFJ and its fiscally sponsored project, Youth Organize! California. This position is responsible for managing HR functions such as payroll, benefits, hiring, and performance management, as well as nonprofit operations including technology, legal compliance, and risk management. The manager will become an expert in the payroll system (currently Paylocity) and oversee all technology for the organization, ensuring that systems meet the needs of staff across CFJ's four regional offices in Fresno, Long Beach, Oakland, and San Jose. The role requires a commitment to CFJ's values and the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in all responsibilities. In addition to HR administration, the People & Operations Manager will engage in organizational competencies such as impactful collaboration, problem-solving, sustainability, communication, relationship-building, and fostering growth. The position is full-time and non-exempt, with some statewide travel required, and operates in a hybrid environment where in-person attendance at training and community events is expected.
