About the position

Alvarez & Marsal, a leading independent global professional services firm, is seeking a Director for its Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) - Commercial Excellence team. This role is open to all U.S. locations and is part of a growing business that targets high growth in the next 2-4 years. The firm specializes in turnaround management, performance improvement, and corporate advisory services, focusing on serving middle market and large cap private equity firms. The PEPI practice aims to improve operating results at portfolio companies through a hands-on approach and deep functional expertise. As a Director in Sales Force Effectiveness, you will advise companies on Revenue & Margin Management, focusing on sales force effectiveness, margin management, marketing optimization, and interim sales leadership. Your responsibilities will include managing teams of professionals to tackle complex business challenges, communicating effectively with C-level management, and designing actionable solutions to enhance revenue and margin performance. You will lead teams in executing ongoing Revenue & Margin Management programs, develop customer measurement solutions, and deliver data-driven insights to clients. The role requires a strong project management skill set, as you will own and manage the execution of individual projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables. You will also contribute to the creation of intellectual property and internal team building, while staying abreast of technological advances and applying your experience to solve client problems creatively. Responsibilities

  • Advise companies on Revenue & Margin Management, focusing on sales force effectiveness, margin management, and marketing optimization.
  • Manage teams of Alvarez & Marsal professionals to address complex business challenges within Commercial Excellence.
  • Communicate effectively with C-level management to conceive and structure analytical plans.
  • Design actionable solutions to Revenue & Margin Management issues and develop implementation plans.
  • Lead teams executing clients' ongoing Revenue & Margin Management programs.
  • Design B2B and B2C customer measurement solutions and deliver data-driven business insights.
  • Contribute to the creation of intellectual property and internal team building.
  • Develop transparency into market trends, competitive dynamics, and customer behavior.
  • Assess and recommend optimal salesforce design and organization structure.
  • Review and adjust sales incentive/compensation plans to align with profitability goals.
  • Evaluate salesforce effectiveness and recommend solutions for improvement.
  • Review and optimize a consistent sales process and ensure leads are efficiently converted into sales.
  • Assess customer segments and channels to optimize go-to-market strategy.

Requirements

  • 7-10+ years' experience running a B2B sales team at a Regional Sales Director level or RVP/VP level.
  • Strong financial acumen with an understanding of P&L and cost drivers.
  • Proven ability to build a quarterly/annual business plan.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools such as Salesforce for dashboards, reports, and metrics.
  • Analytically driven with exposure to various tools including SQL, BI tools (Alteryx, Tableau), and statistical programs (SPSS, R).
  • Exceptional project management and presentation skills.
  • Outstanding people development and management skills, with the ability to lead junior team members.
  • Demonstrated experience providing intellectual and task leadership on complex projects.
  • Ability to work independently in an unstructured environment and think creatively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Consulting experience preferred but not required.
  • MBA from a top-tier university preferred but not required.
