About the position

The Manager of CFO Services at Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) plays a pivotal role in working with private equity-held portfolio companies to deliver solutions that enhance value preservation and generation. The primary objective is to improve transparency regarding key business drivers and performance metrics, thereby supporting the enhancement of cash flow and EBITDA. This position involves hands-on engagement with clients to ensure that private equity firms have credible plans and the capability to execute and achieve desired financial outcomes. CFO Services encompasses several key areas, including Liquidity & Working Capital Optimization, Strategic Analytics & Planning, Performance Measurement & Management, Business Transformation, and Auxiliary Services such as Accounting Remediation. The Manager will be responsible for data collection, validation, and analysis, guiding team members in the information-gathering process, and ensuring that all relevant sources of information are explored. This role requires leading client interviews, asking insightful questions, and understanding the perspectives of various stakeholders. In addition to identifying knowledge gaps and challenging the status quo, the Manager will pinpoint key business challenges, forecast liquidity needs, and assess financial and accounting process inefficiencies. The ability to present issues and opportunities clearly and concisely is essential. The Manager will also oversee project management and implementation, ensuring that project approaches, timelines, and deliverables are logical and accurate. This includes setting and communicating client expectations consistently and employing actionable plans to optimize working capital and improve transparency in processes. Leadership is a critical component of this role, as the Manager will leverage their experience to guide and inspire the team, maximizing their contributions and providing coaching. Financial acumen is necessary to build and review financial models, conduct valuable financial analyses, and evaluate accounting treatments. The Manager will also provide insights and improvement initiatives to senior management and board members, ensuring that the CFO Services team delivers exceptional value to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Guide team members in information gathering and ensure all relevant sources of information are pursued.
  • Lead client interviews, ask inquisitive questions, and understand different stakeholders' perspectives.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and guide the team to challenge the status quo and validate assumptions.
  • Pinpoint key business challenges and forecast liquidity needs accurately.
  • Assess financial/accounting process inefficiencies and evaluate organizational design and roles.
  • Present issues and opportunities clearly and concisely to clients.
  • Own and complete workstreams based on the pillars of services provided by CFO Services.
  • Set and communicate client expectations consistently throughout projects.
  • Create actionable plans to optimize working capital and instill a liquidity-focused culture.
  • Identify risks and obstacles early, creating contingency plans and communicating with clients in a timely manner.
  • Leverage previous experience to guide and promote innovative thinking within the team.
  • Recognize the current skill set of team members and maximize their contributions.
  • Share knowledge and provide coaching to teammates.
  • Build and review various financial models and provide valuable financial analysis.
  • Evaluate accounting treatments and provide insights to senior management and board members.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited 4-year college/university with a concentration in accounting, finance, or economics preferred but not required.
  • 7-10 years of experience in Accounting/Finance, Financial Due Diligence, Restructuring, Investment Banking, or Private Equity.
  • Proficient in financial modeling, data analytics programs, and presentation skills.
  • CPA, CFA, or Master's Degree preferred but not required.
