About the position

Alvarez & Marsal is a leading independent global professional services firm specializing in providing turnaround management, performance improvement, and corporate advisory services. The firm is seeking to expand its Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) Chemicals Team across various locations in the U.S. The PEPI Process Industry Team serves middle market and large cap private equity firms throughout the investment lifecycle, offering services that range from pre-acquisition due diligence to post-merger integration and performance improvement at portfolio companies. The team focuses on several key areas including transaction support, commercial excellence, operational improvement, and capital efficiency, specifically within sectors such as feedstocks, commodity chemicals, specialty chemicals, food and beverage, and pharma and life sciences. The role of Manager, Operations within the PEPI Process Industry Team involves leading teams through time-sensitive projects, structuring performance improvement plans, and managing processes to completion. The successful candidate will synthesize insights from data and client discussions, develop findings, and make strategic recommendations. This position requires a strong team player with excellent written, oral, and analytical skills, as well as proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. The Manager will be responsible for project management, client relationship building, and delivering high-quality results under time pressure. Responsibilities

  • Lead teams through time-sensitive projects by structuring performance improvement plans and managing the process to completion.
  • Synthesize meaningful insights from data, facts, and discussions with clients.
  • Develop findings and make strategic recommendations based on analysis.
  • Work directly with clients to implement strategic and operational recommendations.
  • Manage project timelines, team dynamics, and work-streams effectively.

Requirements

  • 7-10+ years of experience implementing operating and cost improvement programs and/or commercial and margin management improvements.
  • MBA and/or Masters in Science/Engineering from a top-tier school with strong financial analytical skills.
  • Hands-on consulting experience in relevant service areas such as operational improvement and commercial excellence.
  • Previous experience with a recognized strategy or operations consulting firm is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on industry experience in sectors such as chemicals, energy, plastics, or pharmaceuticals is strongly preferred.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 80% of the time.
