About the position

The Per Diem Emergency Department Patient Registration Representative at Owensboro Health is responsible for greeting patients, coordinating patient flow, and assisting with intake processes in a fast-paced environment. This role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed. The representative will ensure accurate demographic and billing information is collected and processed, while also communicating effectively with patients and insurance companies.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients
• Coordinate patient flow to reduce wait times
• Assist patients with intake processes
• Process walk-in patients and visitors
• Confirm eligibility and verify insurance benefits
• Ensure all necessary demographic and billing information is obtained and entered in the computer system timely and accurately
• Schedule appointment times using computerized scheduling programs
• Explain financial responsibilities for services received, payment options, and collection procedures to patients
• Counsel patients regarding insurance benefits and recommend alternative sources of payment and/or financial assistance when appropriate
• Accept payments and co-pays
• Communicate effectively with insurance companies, external agencies, patients, physicians, and team members

Requirements

• High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
• 1+ years of customer service experience
• Ability to work any shift at the hospital on a per diem basis
• Must be 18 years of age or older

Nice-to-haves

• 1+ years of related work experience, including data entry
• Working knowledge of medical office procedures and medical terminology
• Experience in emergency department
