About the position

The Inpatient Nursing Assistant at Wills Eye Hospital plays a crucial role in providing patient care and clerical assistance under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This position is essential for ensuring patient comfort and safety, as well as maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the unit. The role involves direct interaction with patients, assisting with their daily needs, and supporting the healthcare team in various administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient hygiene, mobility, physical comfort, eating and drinking, while observing patients for any changes.
  • Records patient vital signs, routinely, or as directed.
  • Performs 12 lead EKG.
  • Maintains competency in routine blood draws and patient specimen process.
  • Schedules patients as necessary based on information from Residents and Fellows given to inpatient RNs.
  • Escorts or transfers patients in the hospital as needed.
  • Assists with the discharge of patients and escorting them to their vehicles.
  • Assists in the maintenance of unit cleanliness and equipment cleanliness.
  • Assists with maintenance of stock levels.
  • Assists with transfer of stretchers between work spaces.
  • Distributes linen to appropriate areas.
  • Removes linen and trash to appropriate areas.
  • Adheres to strict Standard Precautions and Blood-Borne Pathogens protocol.
  • Maintains BLS certification every two years.
  • Appropriately prepares/handles/delivers patient nutrition.
  • Regularly attends staff meetings and in-services.
  • Satisfactorily completes basic assignments within a given time frame.
  • Complies with the hospital's incident reporting system.
  • Leads the construction and completion of electronic and paper charts for impending procedures.
  • Assists in the filing, collating, and scanning of patient medical record documentation as necessary.
  • Ensures that existing patient files are maintained in an orderly fashion and contain all necessary pre-admission test documentation during the registration process.
  • Supports PAT functions and medical records as needed.
  • Manages paper charts and files as directed.
  • Assists in data compilation, and entry to assist in Quality Improvement projects and inventory management.
  • Interacts effectively with other health care team members to keep them informed of changes in the condition of the patient.
  • Formulates and maintains effective working relationships with peers, managers and other members of the health care team.
  • Avoids repeating rumors or soliciting unfounded statements, keeps personal biases to oneself, maintain positive image.
  • Receives constructive feedback in a positive self-develop-mental manner.
  • Functions as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and accountability when changes are made in job description and responsibility, including performing all qualified duties throughout other areas of the hospital.
  • Strives to maintain the confidentiality of all patients and their families/significant other(s).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent; Completion of a Medical Assistant Course or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) required.
  • CNA or RMA required.
  • 1 year of clinical experience is preferred.
