About the position

The Per Diem Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant at Wentworth-Douglass Physicians Organization will support the Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic by providing high-quality patient care. This role involves covering for staff during vacations, sick leave, and other absences, ensuring that patients receive timely and effective orthopedic care without the need for appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document comprehensive orthopedic history and physical exams.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as splint, brace or cast application/removal, wound care, suturing, and joint aspiration.
  • Educate, instruct, and counsel patients and families regarding their conditions and treatment plans.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests including x-rays and MRIs as needed.
  • Determine and coordinate treatment plans and follow-up schedules for patients.
  • Follow up with patients regarding test results and ongoing treatment.
  • Consult with appropriate resources and refer to specialists as necessary.
  • Document patient treatment, responses, and progress notes in the EPIC system according to medical staff policies.
  • Review patient cases with on-call physicians as needed.
  • Provide first-level response to acute patient complications and emergencies, initiating appropriate measures.
  • Ensure completion of daily opening and closing procedures for the clinic.
  • Manage In-Basket messages and phone calls.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing or physician assistant studies required.
  • Certified New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant licensure required upon hire.
  • Prior experience in Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine, and/or Urgent Care preferred.
