As a Per Diem Pharmacy Technician I at Sequoia Regional Cancer Center, you will work under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist, performing assigned tasks necessary for the operation of the Pharmacy. Your role will involve assisting the pharmacist in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services, ensuring that all medication orders are filled accurately and in compliance with established policies and procedures. You will be responsible for maintaining stock control, preparing orders, and ensuring that all medications are stored correctly. This position requires a commitment to quality and safety in medication management, as well as excellent communication skills to interact with pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacist in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services.
  • Recognize situations that exceed technician authority and refer to pharmacist for timely resolution.
  • Obtain pharmacist verification prior to distributing medications to areas.
  • Answer telephone in a courteous, professional manner and provide timely follow up on requests.
  • Accurately fill medication orders per pharmacist request or following arranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Assist in stock control and assure orders received from wholesalers have recognized bar codes.
  • Prepare orders for offsite areas and prepare returns to wholesaler.
  • Assist with inventorying, stocking, removing expired medication, and monitoring usage.
  • Accurately repackage medications utilizing labeling and policy standards.
  • Fill standard medication trays and boxes accurately and enter accurate expiration dates.
  • Load and refill Pyxis Medstations and utilize scanning technology.
  • Promptly report any defective equipment to IT and assure SALAD medications are not in close proximity.
  • Accurately input patient charges and credits into billing systems as instructed.
  • Deliver or assure delivery of medications to a nursing station in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Perform rounds as assigned to check for unused or discontinued medications and empty return bins as assigned.
  • Document refrigerator temps as part of established policy and procedures and maintain logs and communication as required.
  • Receive medication orders and scan medications into inventory, assuring stock is rotated when adding to stock.
  • Inspect medication storage areas according to procedures and document completion of assigned expiration area.
  • Self-report on medication errors and participate in Pharmacy staff meetings, training, educational and orientation.

Requirements

  • Current California Pharmacy Technician or Intern Pharmacist registration required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of previous work experience in a related field is required.

Benefits

  • Part-time position with competitive hourly pay ranging from $22.48 to $33.72 per hour.
