About the position

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a per diem / prn Float Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care services in various settings. This role involves utilizing respiratory therapy processes to assess and treat patients, operating specialized equipment, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient care. The position requires flexibility in scheduling and the ability to adapt to different service areas within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Use respiratory therapy processes to support patient assessment using various skills such as pulmonary diagnostics and correlating blood gases.
  • Identify and address the special needs of the patient population specific to department services.
  • Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings.
  • Assist physicians with bedside or other procedures as applicable to the facility.
  • Provide medication treatments and therapies per physician orders and patient-driven respiratory protocols.
  • Clean, maintain, and ensure proper functionality of respiratory equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and identify the need for service or repair.
  • Educate and instruct patients on therapy purpose, technique, self-care, and disease management.
  • Facilitate clinical problem solving and collaborate with other departments for patient education.
  • Adapt and comply with policies and procedures for various service areas under physician direction.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Provide clear, concise, timely, and accurate patient handoff.
  • Promote a culture of safety by applying proper safety measures to prevent patient harm.
  • Report patient safety events and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Teach, educate, and precept new teammates, orientees, and students.

Requirements

  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the state of practice.
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the NBRC.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the AHA.
  • Graduate from an accredited respiratory care program with a minimum of an associate degree.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including use of email and electronic medical record systems.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop rapport and maintain positive relationships with patients, team members, and physicians.
  • Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with others.
  • Demonstrates time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting is preferred but not required.
