About the position

The Respiratory Therapist position at Mass General Brigham is a per diem role focused on administering respiratory therapy treatments to patients. This role involves performing technical duties, conducting pulmonary consultations, and providing education to patients about respiratory health. The therapist will work within established policies and procedures, ensuring high-quality care and compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, apply, and administer therapy using a complete range of respiratory equipment.
  • Perform pulmonary consultations and make recommendations for therapy modes, frequency, medication, and duration.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of therapy through auscultation, laboratory tests, and clinical observation.
  • Perform basic bedside pulmonary testing and advanced pulmonary function testing in the laboratory.
  • Conduct blood gas analysis and oversee training of new personnel in the Blood Gas Laboratory.
  • Maintain required records and prepare charges for submission to accounting.
  • Provide direction and guidance to assigned personnel and participate in teaching basic respiratory therapy procedures.
  • Educate patients on disease processes, medications, and home respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Provide emergency assistance such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Assist in the maintenance and calibration of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
  • Follow all organizational and departmental policies and procedures, including safety and infection control standards.
  • Maintain professional growth through attendance at seminars and workshops.
  • Meet annual competency and retraining requirements and attend required meetings.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent required.
  • Respiratory Therapist license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • NRP from the American Academy of Pediatrics required within 3 months of hire or transfer into position.
  • Six months to one year of experience required.
