About the position

The Per Diem Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery at MUSC is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients in a 32-bed unit. This role involves working on a part-time basis with varying hours, including weekends and holidays, to support the labor and delivery process. The nurse will assess patient conditions, assist with examinations and procedures, and coordinate care plans while ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Responsibilities

• Document initial nursing histories and assess patients' conditions per policy requirements.
• Develop individual care plans for patients considering their physical, psycho-social, environmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
• Assist physicians with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care according to established policies and procedures.
• Evaluate outcomes of patient care and consult with other specialists as required.
• Coordinate discharge planning and monitor patients' conditions.
• Maintain confidentiality and communicate patients' conditions during hand-offs.
• Formulate teaching plans based on identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning.
• Coordinate patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
• Perform charge duties as requested after six months of nursing experience and appropriate training.
• Mentor new staff members and provide first line customer service response.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current RN license in the state of South Carolina.
• AHA CPR certification required.
• One year of related experience required for PRN positions.
• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
