The Senior Sonographer is responsible for performing routine and complex ultrasound examinations as prescribed by a physician. This includes reviewing and evaluating requisitions for ultrasound imaging procedures, abstracting data from patient charts, and determining the appropriateness of the prescribed procedure given the diagnosis and clinical signs for routine examinations. The Senior Sonographer selects appropriate equipment and technical factors to identify both pathologic and normal anatomy, ensuring high-quality imaging results. In addition to technical skills, the Senior Sonographer assesses patients' and parents' physical and emotional status and their ability to respond to instructions, developing a plan to adjust to the specific needs of each patient. The role also involves following the QC/Data Integrity Workflow process and practicing High Reliability Communication techniques to enhance patient, family, and team relations. The Senior Sonographer responds to the uniqueness and clinical condition of each patient, creating a supportive environment for both the patient and their family, while promoting a positive work environment in compliance with ETU. The Senior Sonographer is also responsible for identifying and reporting equipment malfunctions, assisting in patient scheduling, and facilitating efficient workflow within the ultrasound area. This includes investigating and resolving technical and scheduling issues, performing designated quality assurance functions, and providing instruction on performing ultrasound procedures for trainees and fellows. The Senior Sonographer serves as a resource for information or assistance and participates in departmental and hospital meetings, completing all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Furthermore, the Senior Sonographer complies with ETU and practices BCH's 6 Core Values: excellence, innovation, communication, respect, teamwork, and accountability. They also take an active role in research projects involving ultrasound, furthering their professional education and maintaining knowledge of current regulations and standards, policies, and procedures.
