About the position

The Per Diem Switchboard Operator at Owensboro Health plays a crucial role in managing communication within the healthcare facility. This position involves receiving and relaying calls, operating telephone software, and coordinating patient transport. The operator must maintain a clean and organized work area while ensuring efficient communication and support for healthcare staff and patients. This role is part-time, requiring flexibility in scheduling to meet the varying needs of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and relays internal and external calls and provides general information.
  • Operates telephone software applications to route incoming calls and place outgoing calls.
  • Operates the computerized system for patient transport, including answering calls, entering information, assigning Ambassadors, and clearing tasks when complete.
  • Dispatches patient transport and security staff as needed, using proper radio etiquette.
  • Maintains desk directories, on-call lists, reference guides, and other associated materials.
  • Receives and accurately prioritizes phone calls to providers and nursing staff as needed.
  • Communicates codes, alerts, drills, and other announcements according to established policies and protocols.
  • Proficient in all software applications specific to the Communications Department.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion to ensure equipment is functional.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher).
  • Beginner level of proficiency with computer and Windows PC applications.
  • Ability to cover any of the needed shifts on a per diem basis, up to 24 hours/week.
  • Ability to work 100% on-site in Owensboro, KY.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ years of experience in a related environment (i.e. office, administrative, clerical, customer service, etc.) using phones and computers as the primary job tools.
  • Prior health care experience.
