About the position

Meta is seeking a Performance & Capacity Engineer to join the Capacity Engineering & Analysis team, focusing on site-wide performance and capacity optimization across all Meta products and services, as well as physical infrastructure. This role involves creating and optimizing global and regional capacity plans to balance service, infrastructure, financial, and business constraints, managing significant investments annually. The engineer will utilize capacity/performance engineering and operations research/data science skills to optimize capacity plans with a strategic company-wide impact, collaborating with various engineering and business teams to support Meta's rapid growth.

Responsibilities

  • Own capacity planning for all of Meta's software products and services, scaling server and data center resources efficiently.
  • Develop and analyze business and technical scenarios to inform executive decision-making regarding infrastructure and products.
  • Partner across the engineering landscape to optimize hardware, infrastructure, and software integration.
  • Collaborate with software service owners and various engineering teams to find optimal scaling solutions for infrastructure and services.
  • Work with Finance to balance cost efficiency with technical and product considerations.
  • Build automated, scalable solutions to large-scale web, mobile, and data infrastructure problems using automation, mathematical optimization, and AI models.
  • Define problem statements, collect data, build analytical models, and make recommendations for strategic change and optimization.
  • Proactively identify capacity-related issues and implement solutions across technical and business teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficient in any programming language and designing software systems.
  • Experience with managing ambiguity and demonstrating effective intellectual curiosity.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Operations Research, or other technical field.
  • Experience with mathematical optimization.
  • Practical experience in performance or capacity engineering.
  • Experience working with distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience with planning and analytics.
  • Experience collaborating with a variety of technical and non-technical teams.
  • Direct experience in capacity planning for a major private or public cloud.
