About the position

Meta is seeking a Performance & Capacity Engineer to join the Capacity Engineering & Analysis team, focusing on site-wide performance and capacity optimization across all Meta products and services, as well as physical infrastructure. This role involves creating and optimizing global and regional capacity plans to balance service, infrastructure, financial, and business constraints, managing significant investments annually. The position is cross-functional, collaborating with various engineering and business teams to ensure optimal operation of infrastructure, leveraging advanced technologies including AI and the Metaverse.

Responsibilities

  • Own capacity planning for all of Meta's software products and services.
  • Develop and analyze business and technical data to drive executive decision making around infrastructure and product.
  • Understand end-to-end capacity planning processes and methodologies to deliver an optimized Capacity Plan.
  • Manage and resolve critical escalations and exceptions across product, platform, and physical infrastructure layers.
  • Partner with engineering teams to optimize hardware, infrastructure, and software interactions.
  • Collaborate with software service owners and various engineering teams to scale infrastructure effectively.
  • Work with Finance to balance cost efficiency with technical and product considerations.
  • Define problem statements, collect data, build analytical models, and make recommendations for optimization.
  • Identify capacity-related issues proactively and implement solutions across teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience in Planning.
  • 7+ years of experience in data analysis and modeling.
  • 7+ years of experience with SQL and/or coding.
  • Demonstrated success in managing relationships and competing priorities with executive partners.
  • Desire to learn about capacity planning and optimization.
  • Experience managing ambiguity and proven intellectual curiosity.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Operations Research, or other technical field.
  • Experience working with distributed systems at scale.
  • Track record of success in capacity planning/management for a major cloud.
