About the position

The Perfusionist at UVA Health University Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting the cardiopulmonary and circulatory systems of patients during surgical procedures. This position is part of a highly collaborative team of fourteen perfusionists, dedicated to providing exceptional care to both adult and pediatric patients, including those undergoing heart and lung transplantation. The role involves operating and maintaining advanced perfusion equipment, preparing for surgical cases, and working closely with attending physicians to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities

  • Perform functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement, and/or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and/or circulatory system of the patient.
  • Select, prepare, operate, and maintain cardiopulmonary bypass and ancillary equipment.
  • Manage equipment and supply maintenance for surgical cases.
  • Prepare for cases and ensure readiness of perfusion equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with attending physicians in extra-corporeal perfusion practices.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program in Perfusion required.
  • Certified to practice as a Perfusionist by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion; if new grad, certified within four exam offerings and within 24 months of hire date.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Pediatric and VAD experience preferred.
