About the position

As a Patient Care Assistant Periop at CHI St. Joseph Health, you will play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team by managing sterile supplies, assisting with patient positioning, and ensuring the operating rooms are set up and cleaned efficiently. This entry-level position is essential for maintaining the flow of surgical operations and providing high-quality care to patients before, during, and after surgery.

Responsibilities

• Review the OR schedule daily to track and monitor patient pick-up and delivery to ensure timely surgical starts.
• Open and assist the team with supplies, instrument sets, and suture selection while meeting benchmark turnovers.
• Assist in patient positioning, surgical preps, and retrieving x-rays and equipment for the surgical suite.
• Round within assigned surgical rooms to ensure all turnovers are met and support patient movement and flow.
• Assist Registered Nurses, Surgical Scrubs, and Surgeons by retrieving supplies and managing ancillary support without disrupting surgical cases.
• Anticipate the needs of surgical team members and provide necessary support regarding surgical supplies and instruments.
• Set up and tear down laparoscopic equipment, ensuring proper processing and arrangement of printers, cameras, and tubing.
• Ensure used surgical instruments are cleaned and returned to the decontamination department within SPD.
• Assist in pre-operative patient preparation, including placing grounding pads and ensuring proper connections.
• Obtain necessary skin preparation solutions and prepare the prep stand as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• One (1) year of related healthcare experience
• American Heart Association BLS certification
