About the position

The Perioperative Business Operations Project Manager at UMass Memorial Health Care plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Perioperative and Procedural locations within the medical center. This position is designed for a professional who can collaborate with various medical, nursing, and administrative teams to oversee project and data management specifically for the Pre-Surgical Evaluation (PSE) Clinic, operating rooms, and endoscopy centers. The Project Manager will focus on critical areas such as block utilization management and the development of programs for robotic surgery and digestive disease service lines. Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Perioperative Business Operations, the Project Manager will be responsible for designing and implementing improvement projects that span across the Medical Center or Medical Group. This includes managing projects from inception to completion, establishing project plans, timelines, and deliverables, and ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and informed throughout the process. The role requires the creation of regular communication materials and reports for department leaders, as well as the analysis and presentation of project outcomes to internal audiences. In addition to project management, the Project Manager will evaluate and recommend vendors for services or products necessary for project development. This involves piloting new services and products and collaborating with leadership to make informed decisions regarding their implementation. The position is full-time, with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and may include a signing bonus based on eligibility confirmed during the interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Designs Medical Center or Medical Group-wide improvement projects and initiatives in collaboration with hospital and department stakeholders.
  • Effectively manages projects to completion, including establishing team, project plan, timeline, and clearly identifying deliverables.
  • Establishes and implements project metrics, adjusting team activities as necessary to ensure project success.
  • Creates regular project communications materials for key constituencies and prepares reports for department leaders and stakeholders.
  • Analyzes and produces compelling reports for internal audiences.
  • Develops and delivers presentations related to projects at the department or hospital level for informational and/or promotional purposes.
  • Evaluates and recommends vendors for the potential purchase of services or products needed for project development or management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare, or a related field.
  • Five years of related work experience in Business, Healthcare, or a related field.
  • Three years of project management experience.
  • Ability to multi-task, trace progress and quality of project plans, as well as ongoing work.
  • Must be able to work independently and function as a team member who fosters effective communication and coordination of department efforts.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, particularly with PowerPoint, Excel, and Word, in addition to working knowledge of Access.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Business, Healthcare, or a related field.
  • A working knowledge of patient-centered care principles, performance improvement standards and methodology, and Lean Management principles.
