The Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) position at ODOT focuses on ensuring the safety and maintenance of Ohio's roads. The role involves performing various highway maintenance activities, attending training for CDL licensure, and participating in snow and ice operations. This position offers opportunities for growth and development within the organization.

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure if not already a licensed CDL holder.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing.
  • Perform snow and ice operations.
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction and in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary for HMW1.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction for HMW1.
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction, decimals, percentages & fractions for HT1.
  • Ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary for HT1.
  • 3 months training or 3 months experience in operation of basic equipment for HT1.
  • Experience in highway maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations related to highway maintenance.
