About the position

The Permit Concierge/Liaison Coordinator serves as a vital link between permit applicants and the City of Plantation's Building Department. This role involves managing the intake and distribution of permit applications, ensuring timely reviews, and providing guidance to applicants throughout the permitting process. The position requires a strong understanding of residential and commercial permitting processes, as well as contractor licensing regulations, while working independently with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate activities related to businesses, developers, and contractors to improve customer service operations.
  • Serve as a liaison between businesses and various City departments regarding business expansion, relocation, or startup.
  • Communicate City regulations and construction regulations to stakeholders without enforcement authority.
  • Assist in monitoring and tracking applications through the streamlined permitting system.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to contractors, developers, and the public regarding building permits.
  • Receive and process various permit applications, ensuring completeness and sufficient documentation.
  • Answer inquiries from the public and business community with professional customer service skills.
  • Check and review data for accuracy and compliance with established standards.
  • Ensure contractors are registered and their information is current with the City.
  • Schedule inspections and perform information research for reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management related to permitting, inspection, and zoning regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years of responsible office experience, preferably with municipal/county agencies and permitting.
  • Knowledge of building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes.
  • Understanding of the Florida Building Code and relevant local, state, and federal laws.
  • Proficiency in modern office practices and procedures, including Microsoft software.
  • Ability to interpret city codes and provide recommendations to the public.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in software troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of planning, building, zoning, and code compliance concepts.
