About the position

Aspen Utility Company, a leader in the telecommunications construction sector, is seeking a Permit Drafter to join our team in Houston, TX. This full-time position is essential for compiling the necessary information to stake projects for construction using engineering plans. The Permit Drafter will work closely with customers and state entities in the field, ensuring that all projects are tracked according to client and company procedures from inception to completion. The role requires a solid proficiency with survey equipment and the ability to read engineering and civil plans effectively. In this position, you will be responsible for attending site visits, researching public records for supporting documents related to engineering and surveying projects, and performing all work while adhering to appropriate safety procedures. Maintaining accurate records and notes of office work activities is crucial, as is the ability to perform other job-related duties as assigned. The work environment will vary, as you will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions while also having the opportunity to work in a professional office setting with routine use of office equipment. To succeed in this role, you must possess strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with little to no supervision. Familiarity with easements and right-of-ways, as well as a basic understanding of CAD drafting software, will be beneficial. A valid driver's license is required, as local travel will be necessary, with the potential for travel around the state of Texas. Responsibilities

  • Tracks projects according to client and company procedures from inception to completion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of land surveying experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and routine office equipment.
  • Familiarity with easements and right-of-ways.
  • Basic understanding of CAD drafting software is a plus.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver's license.
