About The Position

The Permit Technician I position at Levy County BOCC is an entry-level office role focused on providing clerical support and customer service within the Development Department. The primary responsibility is to assist customers with permit-related inquiries and processes, ensuring professionalism and expertise in all interactions. This role does not involve supervisory duties and operates under the guidance of the Office Manager/Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Valid Florida Driver's License for required travel.
  • 6 months of data entry and customer service experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Knowledge of general office practices.
  • Interpersonal skills / Customer service skills; Position involves much public contact.
  • Strong working knowledge of computers, e.g., current operating systems, email, Internet usage, basic spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and reviews customer needs and provides assistance and guidance accordingly.
  • Receives inspection requests.
  • Maintains phone communications with field workers.
  • Advises customers of requirements for permits, such as applications, site plans, number of plans, etc.
  • Notifies customers of permit status.
  • Issues required permits (building and driveway/culvert).
  • Retrieves and prepares in-house records.
  • Retrieves records as requested.
  • Distributes incoming faxes.
  • Reports to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and works the entire assigned schedule.
