About the position
The Permitting Technician I role involves clerical, technical, and customer service responsibilities related to the review of permit applications for development within Pasco County. The position requires effective communication and the ability to assist citizens with inquiries regarding construction permits, regulations, and procedures. The technician will ensure the accuracy of applications, calculate fees, and maintain records while providing professional support to the public.
Responsibilities
- Answer customer questions regarding construction activities and projects requiring permits.
- Assist citizens with inquiries, complaints, investigations, and billing questions.
- Provide information about procedures, regulations, fees, ordinances, permits, plans, and codes.
- Determine types of permits required for proposed construction activities.
- Accept and review permit applications for completeness and accuracy.
- Verify property Parcel Identification Numbers and job site addresses.
- Identify necessary reviews by Pasco County before issuing permits.
- Determine approvals from other government agencies and make referrals as necessary.
- Calculate review fees and notify applicants.
- Prepare procedures for processing permit applications.
- Expedite processing of permit applications with identified problems.
- Process monetary transactions and balance collected funds against accounting screens.
- Establish and maintain files and records.
- Perform data entry and retrieval using computer software.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of experience in regulatory services involving permitting, licensing, or inspections.
- One year of experience in customer service with frequent public contact.
- Valid Florida driver's license.
Nice-to-haves
- Notary public or ability to obtain commission within nine months from hire.
