About the position

The Personal Banker at Valley National Bank serves as a Banking Service Professional, focusing on providing exceptional customer service and support for sales and service activities within the banking office. This role involves developing new business by educating clients about banking products and services, performing routine banking transactions, and ensuring compliance with operational procedures while supporting the Market Manager in achieving quality service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service in accordance with Valley's mission statement.
  • Engage customers with friendly and professional service.
  • Educate and demonstrate bank products and services to customers, and cross-sell various products.
  • Analyze customer needs and recommend appropriate banking solutions.
  • Meet with customers to discuss financial needs and maximize sales opportunities.
  • Open new accounts including checking, savings, certificates of deposit, and IRAs.
  • Discuss and sell loan products to existing and prospective customers.
  • Promote and demonstrate online and mobile banking capabilities to customers.
  • Meet customer expectations and achieve service quality standards.
  • Participate in the sales referral process to ensure customer financial needs are met.
  • Assist management in coaching and mentoring branch staff members.
  • Perform all transactions required by customers using appropriate technology.
  • Maintain and balance a cash box and assist with cash management as a Vault Teller.
  • Assist in community events and support CRA initiatives and programs.
  • Report significant matters and unusual customer activity to the Manager.
  • Maintain knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED with a minimum of 1 year of business services experience in branch banking.
  • Knowledge of branch operations or successful completion of a Valley Retail training program.
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, economics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding customer transactions.
  • Ability to interpret various instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Deep understanding of Retail Banking and strong Customer Service Skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and high accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with FIS/IBS (Integrated Banking Solutions).
