About the position

The Personal Banker I position is an entry-level role focused on building proficiency in transaction, sales, and service functions within a banking environment. The role involves processing transactions, providing exceptional customer service, and consulting with customers to maximize sales potential. The banker will spend approximately 80% of their time on transactional and service functions and 20% on sales and relationship-building activities, contributing to the financial growth of the branch while ensuring compliance with banking regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively greet customers to establish a connection and develop rapport, providing outstanding personalized customer service.
  • Assess customer needs and educate them on digital strategies, directing them to appropriate service areas or banking representatives.
  • Execute a variety of customer transactions accurately and efficiently while maximizing sales potential.
  • Assist customers with inquiries and provide issue resolution in a professional manner.
  • Thank each customer for their business and treat every individual as a valued customer.
  • Assist customers with routine inquiries regarding account balances and account information.
  • Cash checks and process withdrawals, ensuring verification of signatures and balances.
  • Prepare official checks and money orders, and refer customers to an officer for authorization when needed.
  • Count, check, and package coins and currency, balancing the cash drawer at the end of the day and reporting discrepancies.
  • Check night depository bags and record information accurately.
  • Accept retail and commercial deposits, verifying cash and endorsements, and provide receipts to customers.
  • Listen carefully to customers to understand their financial priorities and promote bank products and services accordingly.
  • Optimize customer relationships by referring customers to branch team members for cross-selling opportunities.
  • Participate in daily kick-off and huddle activities, weekly sales meetings, and training activities.
  • Support sales campaigns and bank initiatives, sharing product information and sales tips.
  • Champion the digital strategy and engage customers with in-branch digital tools.
  • Adhere to branch operations standards, policies, and regulatory guidelines to protect against risk.
  • Maintain professionalism in appearance, punctuality, and behavior, and keep a clean, organized work area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of customer service, sales, or related work experience, or completion of one year of college/vocational school in lieu of work experience.
  • Knowledge of bank operations, policies, and procedures, as well as federal bank regulations.
  • Knowledge of bank products and services.
  • Strong customer service skills and aptitude for consultative selling.
  • Strong listening and comprehension skills to identify customer financial needs, goals, and objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish rapport with customers.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to manage time and multi-task effectively.
  • Mathematical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office software products.
