About the position

AASC is seeking competent and talented Personal Care Aides (PCA) or Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) to join our amazing team as we deliver quality home care to clients in our 8-county service area in Southwest Virginia. The role involves providing essential personal care services to clients, ensuring their comfort and safety in a home environment. The position is available for both part-time and full-time schedules, with specific shifts primarily during the day from Monday to Friday. As a PCA or CNA, you will be responsible for assisting clients with daily living activities, which may include personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication reminders, and light housekeeping. This role is crucial in helping clients maintain their independence and quality of life while receiving care in their own homes. Responsibilities

  • Assist with dressing, undressing, and bathing of clients including routine skin care.
  • Assist with grooming of hair, cleaning of nails, and shaving with electric razor.
  • Assist with care of teeth, mouth, and dentures.
  • Provide incontinence care and toileting assistance, including emptying of external indwelling catheters.
  • Assist individuals to ambulate, turn/change positions, or transfer, often involving lifting greater than 20-40 lbs. unassisted.
  • Prepare meals and assist individuals with eating or feeding, following special diets or swallow restrictions.
  • Assist individuals with self-administered medications, reminding them at prescribed times.
  • Provide supervision for individuals requiring physical presence for safety.
  • Provide routine wound care that does not include sterile technique.
  • Obtain and report vital signs: temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, O2 saturation, and weight.
  • Provide light housekeeping of the individual's main living areas.
  • List supplies needed for purchase to grocery shop, and assist with mail if no caregiver is available.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read and write English to the degree required to function in this capacity and create and maintain required documentation.
  • Possess a Personal Care Aide certificate from an approved program or be a Certified Nursing Assistant licensed with the Virginia Board of Nursing in good standing.
  • Possess a valid Social Security Number.
  • Receive a tuberculosis screening according to the requirements of the Virginia Department of Health.
  • Prefer 1 year experience in providing personal care assistance to patients.
