Responsibilities

  • Encourage and reinforce the need for a safe environment related to equipment and fall precautions.
  • Involve residents and families in care decisions to promote self-determination and independence.
  • Explain all care procedures to residents prior to performance.
  • Recognize and report any potential abuse or neglect.
  • Follow the service plan as outlined by the care team and provide feedback on any changes.
  • Assist residents with eating, grooming, bathing, restroom needs, dressing, and walking as required.
  • Assist therapists with rehabilitation services as requested.
  • Report any changes in the patient's mental and physical condition to the supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation standards and policies.
  • Treat residents and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Demonstrate competence in technical and manual skills according to PCA scope of practice.
  • Provide reminders for meals and medications.
  • Function as a resident advocate by protecting residents' rights.
  • Maintain a well-kept and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Communicate necessary issues to environmental services.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to meet residents' needs.
  • Assist with the self-administration of medications and follow medication rights.

Requirements

  • Must have First Aid Certification.
  • Knowledgeable of service plans and able to follow them accurately.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and the care team.
  • Competence in technical and manual skills relevant to PCA duties.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a similar role or healthcare setting.
  • Training as a Med Tech is preferred but not mandatory.
