About the position

The Personal Care Aide (PCA) position is designed to provide essential support to residents in a long-term care environment. The primary responsibility of the PCA is to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment for residents by attending to their physical, emotional, and social needs. In this role, the PCA will engage with residents to provide emotional support and companionship, helping to enhance their quality of life. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to follow instructions accurately. The PCA will also be responsible for observing and reporting any changes in residents' conditions to the appropriate staff members. This position may involve working various shifts, including weekends, to ensure continuous care for residents. Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to residents as assigned in accordance with their care plans.
  • Ensure a safe and comfortable environment for residents.
  • Attend to residents' physical needs and comfort.
  • Offer emotional and social support to residents.
  • Follow health, sanitary, and infection control policies.
  • Maintain established standards of practice set forth by the community's administration and nursing policies.
  • Observe and report changes in residents' conditions to supervisors.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, co-workers, and community staff.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a high school program or be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of required coursework with demonstration of competency.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to navigate electronic health record software.
  • Ability to communicate in English and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Good interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position/assignment.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of others in the workplace.
