About the position

The Personal Care Aide (PCA) position is designed to provide essential support to residents in a long-term care facility. The role focuses on ensuring a safe environment, offering emotional and social support, and attending to the physical needs and comfort of residents. PCAs perform direct care as per the residents' care plans and under the guidance of supervisors, while adhering to health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to residents as assigned according to their care plans.
• Ensure a safe and comfortable environment for residents.
• Offer emotional and social support to residents.
• Follow health, sanitary, and infection control policies.
• Maintain established standards of practice set by the community's administration and nursing policies.
• Communicate effectively with residents, supervisors, and co-workers.
• Observe and implement proper safety and sanitary techniques.

Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma or GED, or be enrolled in a high school program.
• Completion of required coursework with demonstrated competency.
• Basic computer skills and ability to navigate electronic health record software.
• Ability to communicate in English and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Good interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work scheduled hours and not pose a direct threat to health and safety.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous experience in long-term care preferred but not required.
