The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) at Grove City Senior Living plays a vital role in providing nursing-related services to residents in assisted living and memory care settings. The PCA is responsible for maintaining a homelike environment that promotes resident rights and independence, allowing residents to maintain control over their daily lives to the greatest extent possible. The PCA's duties encompass a wide range of direct care activities aimed at improving or maintaining the residents' abilities, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and safety at all times. In this role, the PCA will provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility, transferring, and feeding. This includes tasks like transporting residents to the shower, assisting with personal hygiene, and ensuring that residents are dressed appropriately. The PCA will also monitor residents' physical and emotional well-being, reporting any significant changes to the nursing staff. The position requires a compassionate approach, as the PCA must deliver care with kindness and respect, fostering a positive environment for residents. The PCA will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and safety within the facility, which includes monitoring for hazards, cleaning up spills, and ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly. Regular communication with nursing staff is essential to ensure that all care assignments are completed effectively and that any concerns are addressed promptly. The PCA will participate in ongoing training and education to stay updated on best practices in personal care and safety protocols. Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to residents to improve or maintain their abilities according to the resident's plan of care.
  • Seeks assistance from the Nurse when unsure of assignment, procedure, or situation.
  • Receives and completes all patient care assignments and other activities as assigned by the Nurse.
  • Delivers care in a compassionate, quality manner with kindness, respect, and dignity.
  • Participates in improving the quality of the environment by contributing to the elimination of odors and pressure wounds and maintaining a clean and homelike environment.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility, transferring, and feeding.
  • Monitors resident progress toward treatment goals and reports responses to the Nurse.
  • Records accurate, legible information about resident care, conditions, and observations in appropriate sections of resident records.
  • Regularly communicates throughout the shift with the Nurse about assigned residents.
  • Cleans and stores equipment and personal care items, ensuring the whole unit is kept clean and in good order.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Demonstrate an ability to read, write, and understand job-related information and directions in English.
  • Have first-aid training within sixty (60) days of hire.
  • Complete training in correct techniques of providing personal care services, observation, reporting, communication, and interpersonal skills prior to providing personal care without supervision.

  • Ability to recognize changes in resident's conditions evidenced by physical symptoms, verbal expression, or observation of change in mental or psychosocial status.
  • Ability to coordinate numerous activities at any given time and make rational, sound judgments quickly, often under pressure.
