About the position

The Personal Care Assistant/Caregiver at Casa Abuela's is responsible for providing compassionate care and support to elderly residents in a residential care community. This role involves assisting with daily living activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, and promoting a positive and engaging environment. The position offers opportunities for professional development and advancement within a supportive and lively atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including housekeeping, meal preparation, personal laundry, and personal care tasks.
  • Respond promptly to resident needs and requests for care.
  • Observe residents for safety and changes in their physical, emotional, or mental condition, and report any concerns to the supervisor.
  • Provide medication reminders and maintain accurate documentation in resident files.
  • Uphold residents' rights and support company policies and care philosophy.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and contribute to team spirit and cooperation within the community.
  • Promote customer service and positive community relations by treating residents, families, and visitors courteously.
  • Coordinate and implement engaging activities such as arts and crafts, game nights, and meaningful conversations with residents.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for all residents.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a facility or day program with multiple residents.
  • Medication management experience as a Med Tech.
  • Experience with dementia and hospice care.
  • Compassionate, patient, and understanding demeanor.
  • Desire to work with the senior population.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Pass all health screenings including a physical and TB test.
  • Current basic first aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • 1 year of previous experience working with the elderly in a residential or long-term care setting is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
