About the position

The Personal Care Assistant/Driver at the Worcester County Developmental Center (WCDC) plays a crucial role in supporting adults with developmental and physical disabilities. This part-time position focuses on providing personal care, ensuring the health and safety of clients, and facilitating their participation in meaningful daily activities. The role requires a compassionate approach, adherence to care plans, and the ability to transport clients safely to various locations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists individuals with personal care including toileting, hygiene, feeding, and ambulating.
  • Treats clients with dignity and respect, acting professionally in line with WCDC's mission.
  • Develops mutual respect and understanding with clients to help them achieve independence.
  • Counsels clients to help them realize their abilities and make informed choices.
  • Follows care plans and individual-specific training for each client.
  • Utilizes safe practices with gait belts and mechanical lifts as needed.
  • Maintains participant records according to regulations and policies.
  • Reports any changes in clients' health or needs.
  • Participates in program planning and adapts activities for different ability levels.
  • Works cooperatively with staff to support clients in activities and projects.
  • Creates a positive atmosphere for clients to express themselves.
  • Maintains DOT certification to transport clients safely and follows traffic laws.
  • Works with clients in their homes when necessary due to program closures or illness.
  • Transports clients to medical appointments as needed.
  • Communicates with supervisors about activities and concerns.
  • Collaborates with staff to maximize client development.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license.
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work-related experience required.
  • Must complete all DDA Core Training successfully.
  • Pass and maintain DOT certification.
  • Must be able to stand and walk 90% of the work time and sit/drive 10%.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in Med Tech, CPR, First Aid, Mandt, and special needs training.
