About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) role at Southeastern Healthcare of NC Inc. involves providing personal care and supportive services to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. The PCA is responsible for assisting patients with daily living activities and ensuring their safety and comfort in a homecare setting. This position is essential for maintaining the quality of life for patients and preventing hospitalization through effective personal care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide all aspects of personal care and supportive services as directed and under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Assist patients with personal care including bathing, skin care, and mouth care.
  • Assist patients with ambulation, including using a walker, and help them in and out of bed.
  • Assist patients with meal preparation and eating.
  • Assist patients with using the bedpan, commode, or bathroom.
  • Perform household services necessary to facilitate the patient's self-care at home.
  • Immediately report any changes in the patient's condition to the patient's case manager.
  • Document all care provided as outlined in the Certified Home Health Aide Plan of Care.
  • Ensure that safety measures are being followed during patient care.
  • Complete the orientation program outlined by the organization.
  • Participate in in-service education programs and the Interdisciplinary Treatment Meeting.

Requirements

  • Certified Home Health Aide certification
  • 1 year of experience as a CNA
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to document in a nurse's note
  • Ability to follow instructions by written policy
