About the position

The Personal Care Assistant position is a part-time role designed to provide essential support to Ali Ramos, a 36-year-old woman living with Muscular Dystrophy. The assistant will be responsible for various aspects of personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and trach care, as well as assisting with mobility using a lift. The role also encompasses household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and running errands, ensuring a well-maintained living environment. The assistant will work closely with Ali, who is an active social worker and community advocate, and will need to respect her privacy and personal space while engaging in meaningful conversations. The position requires a commitment to a flexible schedule, primarily during evening hours on weekends, with the possibility of additional shifts to cover for other assistants. The assistant will be part of a team, collaborating with other caregivers to ensure comprehensive support for Ali. The ideal candidate should be organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong communication skills, as well as a good sense of humor. A valid driver’s license is essential, as the assistant will be required to drive Ali in her van for various activities and appointments. This role not only involves physical assistance but also offers the opportunity to engage in social interactions and contribute to Ali's quality of life.

Responsibilities

• Assist with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and trach care.
• Help with transferring using a lift.
• Cook meals with guidance as needed.
• Perform household chores including dishes, making the bed, and tidying up.
• Care for plants and the garden.
• Sweep and mop floors as necessary.
• Run errands and drive Ali in her van.
• Provide pet care for dogs and cats.

Requirements

• Comfortable with personal care tasks.
