The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) position is part of the Personal Preference Program (PPP), a Medicaid initiative designed to empower individuals with disabilities to customize their caregiving needs. This role is essential for providing support to a 40-year-old male with cerebral palsy, who requires assistance with various activities of daily living (ADLs). The PCA will be responsible for light housekeeping, grocery shopping, running errands, meal preparation, and assisting with exercises. The position requires a compassionate individual who can help with transfers, dressing, and bathing, ensuring the consumer's comfort and dignity at all times. The PCA will work approximately 32 hours a week, with a pay rate of $20 per hour. The schedule includes 6-hour shifts on Fridays and Sundays, and 4-hour shifts on weekdays. There is also an opportunity for additional hours, which can be discussed during the interview. Flexibility is a key aspect of this role, as the PCA may be required to provide on-call backup care, allowing for negotiation of shifts to accommodate both the PCA's and the consumer's needs. The ideal candidate will possess qualities such as responsibility, excellent attendance, strong communication skills, and a willingness to be available on short notice if necessary.
