About the position

Liberty Senior Living is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to join our team at The Kempton of Rock Hill. This per diem position requires a commitment to providing high-quality care to our residents, assisting them with daily living activities and ensuring their comfort and well-being. As a PCA, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our residents by assisting them with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, and other activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed during your shift. You will also be responsible for changing linens on beds according to the bath schedule or as needed, taking and recording vital signs as per policy, and assisting Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) with various tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the facility. In this role, you will be expected to turn and reposition residents in bed according to facility policy, assist with oral hygiene including denture care, and promptly respond to call bells following facility protocols. You will complete patient care records at the end of your shift, including accurate intake and output documentation. Additionally, you will be responsible for collecting urine or stool specimens as directed, administering enemas when necessary, and maintaining a clean and organized patient unit and common areas. This includes caring for and cleaning nursing equipment, following restraint policies, and assisting with post-mortem care when required. You will ensure that residents have access to fresh ice water by refilling pitchers at least once per shift and keeping bedside tables and closets tidy. The PCA will also assist with rehabilitation programs such as bowel and bladder retraining and grooming, ensuring that all activities are charted accurately on the Rehabilitation sheet every shift. You will work closely with the charge nurse to address resident needs and treatments as directed, and you will be expected to maintain a clean and hygienic environment by replacing used towels and washcloths immediately. At the end of your shift, you will report to the oncoming CNAs, ensuring a smooth transition of care. This position requires a genuine concern for the welfare of geriatric patients and a commitment to following facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, and ADLs as needed during shift.
  • Change linen on beds according to bath schedule and/or as needed.
  • Take and record vital signs per policy and/or as directed.
  • Assist CNAs with needed tasks.
  • Turn residents while in bed per facility policy.
  • Reposition residents while out of bed per facility policy.
  • Assist with oral hygiene including denture care when needed.
  • Answer call bells promptly following facility policy.
  • Complete patient care records at end of shift, including accurate I and O documentation.
  • Fill in Patient Observation Records and Activity Attendance Records for the next month at the end of the month.
  • Collect urine or stool specimens as directed.
  • Administer enemas as directed.
  • Keep patient unit/halls clean and neat.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of bedside tables, chest of drawers, and closets.
  • Care for and clean nursing equipment such as BP equipment and thermometers.
  • Follow restraint policy, including release procedures.
  • Assist with post-mortem care when needed.
  • Ensure residents have fresh ice water by refilling pitchers at least once every shift.
  • Clean water pitchers, cups, bedpans, and urinals per schedules.
  • Rinse personal clothing, sheets, etc. if soiled before placing in appropriate laundry barrel.
  • Assist residents with bedpan or urinal use.
  • Empty catheter bags at end of shift and record output on appropriate record.
  • Assist with rehabilitation programs such as bowel and bladder retraining and grooming, charting on Rehabilitation sheet every shift.
  • Assist charge nurse with resident needs and treatments as directed.
  • Keep a clean towel and washcloth for each patient in bathrooms at all times.
  • Empty incontinent pad barrel and linen containers every shift and replace plastic bags in containers.
  • Report at end of shift to oncoming CNAs.
  • Understand and agree to follow policy of no transfers until certified.
  • Obtain assistance from a CNA for tasks not comfortable or trained to perform.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a graduate of a NA1 training program.
  • Must have passed the program and must pass state test within 4 months from completion.
  • Must be willing to care for geriatric patients and have a genuine concern for their welfare.
  • Must be willing to receive, understand, and follow orders.
  • Must be willing to work and cooperate well with other nursing staff, other departments, and families and visitors.
  • Must be kind and respectful to patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Must be able to use equipment safely and economically.
  • Must wear approved colored dress uniform or approved colored top and natural colored hose, white nonporous shoes, and nametag.
  • Demonstrates neat appearance and good personal hygiene.
  • Must read, know, and follow personnel, department, and facility policies and procedures.
  • Must attend in-service training and other staff meetings as required.
