About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides one-on-one support and assistance to students, particularly those with special needs, to help them achieve the highest level of independent functioning. This role involves working closely with teachers and the Director of Student Learning Support to monitor health and behavior, assist with daily living activities, and use medical equipment as needed. The PCA is expected to complete training and demonstrate competencies in health-related procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support and assistance to students.
  • Assist students in the use of medical equipment, such as augmentative communication devices.
  • Support students with activities of daily living, including feeding, toileting, and diapering.
  • Monitor students' health and behavior under the direction of teachers and the building principal.
  • Collaborate with special education and general education teachers to facilitate student independence.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete a district-provided orientation and training program.
  • Demonstrate competencies with health-related procedures, including First Aid/CPR.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist students physically as needed.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to articulate clearly and appropriately.
