About the position

Golden Years Homemakers & Companions, Inc. is seeking dedicated and compassionate Personal Care Assistants (PCA) to provide essential services to elderly individuals in a home care setting. Our organization is committed to delivering high-quality care to clients across Connecticut, and we pride ourselves on being flexible with our employees' schedules to accommodate case availability, which can range from hourly to 24-hour total in-home care. As a PCA, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our clients by assisting them with daily activities and ensuring their safety and comfort in their own homes. The ideal candidate will be at least eighteen years of age and possess a minimum of six months of work experience in a supervised setting, preferably within a healthcare facility. Experience in providing care to elderly or disabled persons in a home setting is essential. You will be responsible for performing household services that are crucial to health care at home, including meal preparation, laundry, and light housekeeping. Additionally, you will assist clients with personal care activities such as bathing, grooming, and dressing, while also reminding them to take their medications as directed. Effective communication is key in this role, as you will need to report any changes in the client's condition to the Care Coordinator and document the care provided accurately. Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to infection control practices are paramount to ensure a safe environment for both clients and staff. We are looking for individuals who are reliable, possess good verbal and written skills, and have a valid driver's license with reliable transportation to fulfill assignments. Responsibilities

  • Performs household services essential to health care at home, including meal preparation, laundry, and light housekeeping.
  • Reminds patients to take medications that are ordinarily self-administered under the direction and supervision of patient and/or family members.
  • Performs personal care activities, including bathing, shampooing, skin care/nail care, oral hygiene, shaving, and dressing.
  • Performs routine housekeeping duties.
  • Reports any observed or reported changes in the client's condition and/or needs to the Care Coordinator.
  • Documents care provided and completes the forms required for the client's records.
  • Completes the appropriate records to document care given and pertinent observations.
  • Promotes personal safety and a safe environment for clients by observing infection control practices and reporting unsafe situations to the Care Coordinator.
  • Demonstrates safe practice in the use of equipment and does not use equipment until orientation about its operation has been provided.
  • Notifies supervisor of educational needs and communicates effectively with all members of the agency staff through verbal reports and participation in staff meetings.

Requirements

  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Minimum of six (6) months work experience in a supervised setting, preferably in a health care facility.
  • Experience providing care to elderly or disabled persons in the home setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and follow a written Plan of Care.
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable means of transportation to/from all assignments.
  • Valid driver's license, registration, and insurance on vehicle.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish, preferred but not required.
  • Available to work every other weekend.
